Bedrock Learning is a pioneering EdTech company that aims to transform learning through literacy. They believe that literacy is the foundation for all learning, and it’s this belief which inspired their name.
Their innovative, evidence-based solutions are designed to empower educators and learners by providing comprehensive tools that address core literacy skills.
Challenge
Be compelling to a complex audience
Bedrock Learning has a clear mission; to ensure that every student can succeed in the classroom, enabling them to use literacy skills to improve their future prospects.
But landing this to an audience of jaded, time-poor, often skeptical teachers and education leaders was proving difficult. Awareness was low, and communications were fragmented, which resulted in a confused offer that wasn’t aligned with the brand's goals.
We needed to develop a unified external proposition that shows Bedrock Learning don’t just understand this audience, they actually champion their cause and create change for good.

As technology continues to reshape the classroom, and the needs of teachers change, we wanted to make Bedrock Learning a place where cutting edge innovation meets the demands of the classroom.
Through understanding the relationship between curriculum design, cognitive science and psychology, Bedrock Learning ensure every school has the tools and every student has the skills to fulfil their potential.
Idea
Liberating Learning
We needed an idea that establishes Bedrock Learning as a bold, innovative and assertive leader in the EdTech space.
‘Liberating Learning’ aims to take the process of education and free it from the shackles of tired, out-dated teaching methods. It goes beyond literacy and vocabulary, and communicates a 360º understanding of pedagogy. From the latest neuroscientific research and innovations, to the firsthand education experience of the Bedrock Learning team.
Fundamentally, it allows Bedrock Learning to work with educators to re-spark their passion and energy by being the antidote to the stresses and thanklessness of teaching.
And, most importantly, it can ignite the imaginations and potential in every student.
Visually liberating
Visually we wanted the brand identity to capture the idea and feeling of liberation.
We developed a suite of inflatable objects that can be used within the identity as floating elements which give the brand a sense of freedom and lightness.
The brand icon combines a book, a bird and the letter B to create a unique symbol which builds on the liberating feel whilst also signposting a link to education and literacy.
Balancing energy with science and gravitas
In a sector where a lot of brands look and sound the same, we wanted to create a dynamic and energetic identity system that could appeal to students and education leaders alike.
The inflatables bring a lot of vibrancy to the brand, but it was critical that the serious nature of the brand's mission and the science behind it was also clearly communicated to appeal to senior educators, multi academy trusts, and government.
To do this we matched the colourful objects with a restrained colour palette of black and stone (a nod to the brand name), and paired back the use of the inflatables in some applications.
Platform ready
As with any SaaS brand, we ensured the identity translated seamlessly to the software platform.
We produced bespoke iconography and illustrations that informed the user journey, and gave clear guidance on colour and typography to ensure legibility and accessibility were at the forefront of the learners' experience.
Working with Thisaway was a turning point for Bedrock. They took the time to understand both our mission and the realities of the education sector. They created a brand that speaks clearly to school leaders while still feeling engaging and accessible for the students who use Bedrock every day. Striking that balance - professional without being corporate, vibrant without feeling childish - was critical for us.
At the same time, our product portfolio has expanded significantly, and our previous brand could no longer articulate who we were or where we were heading. Thisaway developed a bold, future-focused brand that gives us the confidence to expand and innovate while keeping our message consistent and relevant. The work has given us a clear and unified way to communicate who we are and the impact we aim to make.
