The Van With A Plan
Bath & North East Somerset council approached us to help them with their upcoming Local Planning campaign trail.
Taking their consultation on the road, the team at B&NES had hired a vintage ice cream van to not only serve as their consultation vehicle but as a moving billboard for their project. With the ability to create a full vinyl wrap around of the van, we were tasked to come up with an idea for what the van would look like.
Feeling like a no brainer, ‘The Van with a Plan’ quickly became the name of the vehicle. In turn, this became the base of what would turn out to be a playful way of encouraging local people to get excited about all the plans for growth and change in their neighbourhoods.
Taking inspiration from the stickers you see on vehicles, and other road trip visual language, we pitched the concept of covering the van with stickers as a device to not only look visually striking but also as a way of holding the relevant information in an interesting way that needed to be included throughout.
With a blank van shaped canvas, we worked with B&NES’s colour palette that had been outlined for the project. Being politically neutral, orange was the primary colour used, with secondary colours adding to a colourful set.
Knowing The Van with a Plan would be documented in various ways throughout the month on the road, we also suggested supporting materials that the concept could flex to. The sticker designs were used as templates for socials, they were made into real stickers to hand out, and… yes, they went for the idea of making some custom air fresheners to complete the set.
Although, unfortunately, real ice cream couldn’t be handed out, the van has been attracting attention in its own way!
